SCIENCE CURRICULUMS - 2009 - 2010

CURRICULUMS

All of ECMSP' science programs are focused on an inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning and are correlated to the South Carolina State & National Science Education Standards. The current program lesson plans and curriculum support are available to 3rd, 5th and 7th Grade teachers. With prior notice, the programs can be adated to cover Education Standards of other states and grade levels.

New lesson plans are being developed with the construction of the Marine Education Center. The lesson plans will include off site instruction, pre-arrival program indoctrination, on site instruction, with procedures for data input and follow-up review. Our goal is to create a research project, that students will revisit through out their educational carear.

All program activities are arranged in an order that progresses from physical science through earth science to biological and environmental science. Activitie themes include 1) the geologic formation of the harbor, the surrounding barrier islands and the watershed from the mountains to the ocean, 2) the use of water quality tests and wildlife inventories conducted at the site and in the classroom, 3) to the use of scientific data in the classrooms to model scientific work and thinking. The Lesson Plans and Curriculum supports are posted on the site and are also available in an Adobe Acrobat Reader PDF format for downloading to your computer.
