Oceanography PROGRAMS at Patriots Point 

                   Programs for Groups Visiting Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum                

Oceanography Programs -  Our hands-on marine science programs are perfect for all ages. The goal is to develop an appreciation of our wonderful marine environment by teaching basic research methods through the participation in an ongoing research project. The 2 – 2.5  hour programs  , are  filled with hands on interactive science projects: ( for full text descriptions and program costs click on Land or Water

Our Staff Biologist conduct Power Point Presentations in our Ward Room or Auditorium classrooms on board the USS Yorktown. The topics include overviews of the Boy Scout Oceanography, Girl Scout Earth Conservation and Oyster Bank Restoration programs.

Specimen inventories and samples are obtained from our underwater habitats. Participants conduct water sample tests. All collected data is used in our oyster reef restoration research being conducted at Patriots Point.

 

 

Students visit and conduct water sample tests in our Marine Lab on board the Coast Guard Cutter Ingham.

Participants in our Oyster Restoration project will be involved in building and studying an Oyster Reef at Patriots Point

Oceanography Land Program

. The 2 – 2.5  hour program is filled with hands on interactive science programs including tests, inventories, and sample specimens obtained at the floating dock research site, inventory and specimen collections from our underwater habitat station and lab located on the Coast Guard Cutter. All data obtained is used in the Oyster Restoration project being conducted at Patriots Point.

Boy Scout (Oceanography) / Girl Scout (Environmental) & Fun Patches – By attending the program and submitting a final research form Scouts fulfill the necessary requirements for the Oceanography (Boy Scout) and Environmental (Girl Scout) badges. See website for program requirements. Starting in August, all participants will qualify for the Program Fun Patch as designed by our Scout participants. 

Cost. The standard program contribution fee is a $7 for each participant or the program can also be chosen as the excursion option within the overnight camping fee. If chosen as the excursion option, there is no additional fee charge.

Reservations:  All Oceanography programs must be reserved directly with the program director at Grybowski@gamil.com. or by phone (843) 856-9302. Patriots Point’s Scouting reservation team must be advised if the program is chosen as the excursion in the overnight camping fee.
