News on Programs - Updated on August 30, 2009 News for the Fall 2009 Oceanography Program - Over 20,000 students participated in our programs during the School Calendar Year 2008 - 2007. We thank all of you for your continued support. In May, 2009, Boy Scouts starting building plankton nets and secchie disks. PDF plans are now posted in the Oceanography page. They work. Construction has started on the NEW MARINE EDUCATION CENTER which is being built on board the USS Aircraft Carrier Yorktown. We hope to have the Center fully operational on January 1, 2010. Pirate Program - Look for details on our new page............ History & Science - Our signature educational program has been expanding to include programs for 3rd, 5th and 7th grade students. Our numbers were off the wall. This year we are working with various Rotary Clubs to provide funding for transportation to our participating groups. Details to be published .....

| Patriots Point Oceanography Program Charleston Explorers offers various Marine Science programs to Scout and Youth Groups visiting Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. Participants in the 2 - 2.5 hour program participate in ongoing research being conducted at Patriots Point. The program curriculums can be tailored to meet all of the requirements for the Boy Scout Oceanography and Girl Scout Earth Connections Badges. Brownie and Cub Scout participants qualify for our special Fun Patch which can be purchased for $2. Program fees are $7 per participant (Note: ECMSP will issue the Blue Cards upon completion of the program requirements) | |

Mobile Classroom Out Reach Program We bring the wonders of the marine environment to your class room. For groups of 20-30 students, we offer an one hour (1hr) multi- media hands on interactive standards based investigative program for students from K-12. Our traveling projector microscopes, allow the students a beyond the naked eye view of the oyster research work being conducted at Patriots Point. Pre-visit activity sheets focus on oyster habitat identification and life cycle. Price - $3.per student. |

We offer standards-based instruction on estuaries, barrier islands, salt marsh ecology and the historical/cultural aspects of Charleston Harbor to grades K-12. Classes are held at our new laboratory & classroom on board the Coast Guard Cutter USS Ingham at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, on board the 70 passenger M/V Charleston Explorer or in your classroom.
